TURKEY’S SECOND LARGEST LIBRARY OPENED IN GAZIANTEP

Constructed by the Şahinbey Municipality, the Şahinbey Nation’s Library — the second largest library in Turkey — has been opened to the public.

Şahinbey Mayor Mehmet Tahmazoğlu, who is well appreciated by citizens for his youth- and education-focused projects, brought Turkey’s second-largest library to Gaziantep. Located in the Akkent Neighborhood on a 40,000 m² area, the Şahinbey Nation’s Library began offering services including group study rooms, a children’s library, an accessible library for individuals with disabilities, a cafeteria, internet access, and free soup.

“The eagerly awaited moment has arrived”

Stating that Turkey’s second largest library has been made available for Gaziantep and Şahinbey residents, Mayor Mehmet Tahmazoğlu said:

“The eagerly awaited moment for our youth has come, and we have opened the Şahinbey Nation’s Library for our citizens and youth. From the very first day we laid the foundation, we worked with great dedication to bring such a significant facility to our city. Built on an area of 40,000 square meters, our library has a capacity of 500,000 books and offers group study rooms, a children’s library, an accessible library, and study halls for primary, secondary, high school, university preparation, undergraduate, and postgraduate students. It also includes computer labs and special study spaces for fine arts and engineering. Our library can serve 4,500 people simultaneously and 20,000 students and citizens daily. We provide the computers, internet, and soup — all we expect from our youth is to study and succeed. We opened our library during Youth Week. May it be beneficial and auspicious.”
